The original Port Austin Bank building was built and chartered in 1884 by Horace J. Snover and Richard Winsor. The building still stands, it is a two-story red brick building located at 8646 Lake Street (the southeast corner of State and Lake Street). In 1918 the bank joined other area lending institutions in Ubly and Bad Axe and became part of a family of banks known as the Sleeper Banks. |
| In 1933 the bank was reorganized by a group of local men that included Robert Thuemmel, Harold F. Finan, Arnold J. Schumacher, A.C. McGraw and Fred W. Kinde who were all appointed directors. A.C. McGraw and Fred Kinde were later replaced by Mike B. Burns and Ted Schubel. Harold Finan served as the bank president until he passed away in 1974. At that time, Willet H. "Pete" Schmidt was named his successor. Pete retired in '2000 and his son Steve was named president at that time. |

In 1957, the bank was moved into a new building at 62 E. State Street that was built exclusively to meet their plans. The new building was located just one block away from the main intersection.
